Roebling Museum School Programs


We've Got you Wired

Grades 4-12*

$5.00 per student 1 ½ hour program

Students will explore the making of steel from recycled materials and how the steel was transformed into wire used to make the famous Roebling bridges. After an introductory film, students will tour the galleries and learn about the impact of wire rope technology and how this technology changed the way people built their world. Students will conduct experiments on tensile strength and load testing based on bridge engineering concepts in the museum workshop room and have fun making rope!



Bridging the World

Grades 4-12*

$5.00 per student 1 ½ hour program

Roebling bridges are famous world-wide. Jenga blocks and paper bridges will bring to life the engineering terms and basic concepts used to build the main types of bridge structures with a focus on suspension bridges. Students will watch an introductory film on the Roebling family and the company, tour the galleries and then be challenged to build bridges using blocks and paper in the museum workshop room.

* Vocabulary and the difficulty of the experiments are adjusted for the different grade levels.



Tours: Grades 4-graduate school

General overview tours and self-guided tours of the museum are available @ $4.00 per student. Please allow approximately 1 hour.

Walking tours of the Village of Roebling, on the National Register of historic places and one of the most intact company towns in America, are available in good weather @ $5.00 per student. A combination museum gallery and village tour is $7.00 per student. Please call ahead. Village tours take approximately 45 minutes.

For specific learning objects, please call in advance and we will work with educators. Pre and post visit materials for students and teachers are available and can be e-mailed or mailed before a visit!
